Caroline Widmann Malone
Caroline is my 4th great aunt. She is the daughter of Jacob Widmann and sister of my 3rd great grandfather John Widmann. She is buried in the Hillside Cemetery in Marshfield, Wisconsin with her parents and most of her siblings. You can view her memorial here.
Caroline Cristine Marie Widmann was born in Watertown, Wisconsin on 8 September 1852 and was baptized at St Luke’s on 31 October 1852. She grew up in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Her brother John reportedly called her “Carley”.
In 1869, Caroline married Garrett Ransom Malone in Rock County, Wisconsin. Garrett was a veteran of the Civil War and native of New York. In 1870, Caroline and Garrett were living next door to Garrett’s parents and he was working as a cooper.
A son, Edward Alfred Malone, was born to the couple in 1873. Caroline and Garrett lived in Rock County, Wisconsin until at least 1885. Caroline died in 1891 from a heart condition at the age of 38. She was living in Marshfield with her parents at the time of her death.
Edward presumably moved back to Marshfield to live with his mother’s family and married in Wood County, Wisconsin in 1895. Garrett remarried shortly after Caroline’s death and moved to Illinois.
