75 Year Old Snags Pike on Frozen Bait

August Dirk is 75 years old and has been fishing a long time. He also has some angling techniques that run a little different than the ordinary.

For instance, minnows that he doesn’t use up he freezes until he gets the chance to go fishing again and they are simply hooked on the end of an 80 pound test line.

But Dirk’s methods must work. Fishing alone in the Missouri River near Eagles Park the 303 9th St. resident snagged on to a 20 pound, 40 inch Northern Pike that took him 45 minutes to bring in.

Why does he use an 80 pound test line? “Then I don’t lose my line on snags.”
