Wawa’s Glassie Pickles

This recipe is from the collection of me great grandmother, Viola Widmann Weigel.

Ripe cucumbers peel and cut up overnight then drain well and make a sweet sour juice and add a stick cinnamon and mustard seed and bring to a boiling point or until pickles seem glassie looking and seal. I make juice like for beets only quite a bit sweeter and you know like wawa cuts them don’t you.

This recipe must have been passed along either to or from another family member. “Wawa” was the nickname of my great great great grandmother Clara Hartl Weigel. It is possible that this was a recipe from her daughter in law Rose Bohman Weigel that was passed to her daughter in law Viola Widmann Weigel. There was no name for this recipe and so I made it up!
